Observatory 006: Fans With Sharp Teeth
The sixth installment of my "pop culture" column on MSN.com's "Parallel Universe" site is up and running.
The focus this month is on Twilight fandom; the weird backlash against fans of the popular vampire media juggernaut at the prior San Diego Comic Con struck a chord with me -- hearkening back to a similar backlash against Vampire: The Masquerade LARPers at dice-and-paper gaming conventions.
It's odd to me that comic fans -- who often complain of being marginalized in the general cultural conversation -- still cling to this tribal, exclusionary stance, and that's the focus of the column.
Also: one hyperlink was omitted from the article, in the comment about how -- on occasion -- Twilight fandom can go too far.
